What is Low Vision?

Low vision is a visual impairment that cannot be corrected by eyeglasses alone.  Most people with low vision have some useable vision, however find it quite difficult to complete everyday activities, such as reading & writing.

Receiving a low vision diagnosis can often be scary, creating a fear of the “unknown.”  Many people worry about how they will safely take care of themselves in their home.  In these situations, creating a professional team of support is important.  OccuVision Therapy Services can teach you techniques to live fully & safely, despite vision loss!

What are some common causes of low vision?

How can we help?

Our therapy techniques focus on skills that you and your loved can incorporate into your daily routine.  Following an evaluation and personalized goal setting session, we will develop a plan of care to best meet your goals.  The plan of care can consist of the following:  Visual skills training to optimize remaining vision, training with magnification for reading and writing, training with techniques to improve visibility with self-care and leisure tasks, and recommendations on home lighting for contrast and safety.  Emphasis is placed on techniques to help you successfully “Age In Place!”
